5 Benefits of Directory Link Building

Directories have been around since the dawn of time – well, the dawn of the Internet, at least – and used to be a popular way to find websites before search engines became en vogue. So why should you use them? Two words – link building. Incoming links to your website from directories are beneficial for a number of reasons.

1. They help to get your website indexed by the search engines.

Used to be you manually submitted your site to the search engines through an “add a website” or “add URL” page; nowadays, the search engines find new websites through links. With directory links, you can be listed on Google and other major search engines in a matter of days instead of having to wait weeks.

2. They’ll help improve your search engine ranking.

Ranking highly in Google depends on more than just incorporating keywords into your content – you also need inbound links, especially if the keywords you’re targeting are competitive. Directories are a great way to get those much-need one-way links and increase your link popularity.

3. They’ll boost keyword relevancy for your website.

By incorporating keywords properly in your directory submissions, you’ll improve the relevancy of your site for those keywords. Improving keyword relevancy can in turn boost your search engine rankings.

4. They’ll provide some traffic to your website.

True, directories don’t provide the web traffic they once did, but they do provide some. And some ultra-targeted niche directories can provide quite a bit.

5. They’re affordable.

Most directories offer free submissions, so it makes good business sense to take advantage of them. The only real cost is the time it takes to create each listing.

Directory link building is an important part of any small business SEO strategy, and is well worth the time and effort it takes to create and submit your listings. Here are a few free directories you can submit your website to to get started:

  1. Genevie Clyburn says:

    Links aren’t everything in SEO, but search professionals attribute a large portion of the engines’ algorithms to link-based factors (see Search Engine Ranking Factors). Through links, engines can not only analyze the popularity of a website & page based on the number and popularity of pages linking to them, but also metrics like trust, spam, and authority. Trustworthy sites tend to link to other trusted sites, while spammy sites receive very few links from trusted sources..`^;
