5 Reasons Email Marketing Still Rules

If you think email marketing is yesterday’s news, think again. Granted, email isn’t cool and cutting edge, and it hasn’t been so for a while. But social media trends come and go (Myspace, anyone?), whilst email has stood the test of time. It’s also one of the cheapest and most effective methods to reach and engage with your audience. Here are 5 reasons email marketing still rules.

1. Personalization

Email remains one of the most infinitely customizable yet easy to use marketing tools out there.  Like other internet marketing platforms, it allows you to send out the same message to hundreds or even thousands of users at the same time. However, you can still tweak it so that it’s personal to each user, which increases the chances of a positive response. Email also has a lot more reach. Users receive your message directly in their inbox, so there’s no need to pay for “boosts” for your message to reach all your target audience. And since most users opt in or out of promotional emails, they’re already inclined to read them.

2. Everyone Uses Email

It’s not unusual to hear people say they’ve sworn off social media and permanently deleted their accounts. But have you ever heard anyone say they’re deleting their email address?  That sounds quite unlikely, doesn’t it? Whether it’s a work email or a personal account, most people have at least one email address to their name. And they check it at least once a day. More importantly, no one’s swearing off email anytime soon.

3. Return On Investment

Taking the time to craft a great email newsletter might sound like a lot of work, but it’s as cheap as it gets and can pay off big time. Consider this: according to the DMA’s National Client Email Report 2015, for every $1 spent on email marketing businesses get an average return of $38. That’s some serious bang for your buck.

4. Analytics

Knowledge is power, especially when you’re running a marketing campaign. The more data you have, the better you can target your message and the more effective it’ll be. Unfortunately, social media metrics are far from being an exact science; but the standards for analyzing email data have been set for years.  When you run an email marketing campaign, it’s easy to determine with a high degree of precision how successful it is just from viewing open rates, click rates, unsubscribes and other statistics. You’ll learn who’s reading your emails and who isn’t and you’ll find out more information about your customer base, so you can make adjustments to improve your campaign.

5. Promotions

Email is a cheap and easy way to run promotions. But there’s more to it than just saving on printing costs.  People are much more receptive to promotions they receive via email than they are to those they get via social media. This makes email promotions not only cost effective, but much more likely to get results.
