6 Ideas for Blog Post Topics

A blog is a great online marketing tool for your business, but one of the downsides is that you have to regularly post to it to keep both Google and your readers happy. Even the most prolific bloggers can find it difficult to keep coming up with interesting topics on a regular basis. For those times when you need a little writing inspiration, here are 6 ideas for blog post topics that will help you get over the hump.

Current events

The latest news in the industry can be a great source of ideas for blog posts. Don’t just report the news, however – give your own take on it and explain how it might affect businesses in the industry.

You can review just about anything – books, products, websites, etc. – although obviously you’ll want to focus on items related to your industry. Be host, but try not to be too scathing in your review if the item is a dud – no sense in making new enemies if you don’t have to.

Instructional articles are a favorite among bloggers, and for good reason – they provide valuable information for readers and are pretty straightforward to write. However, they can be a bit dry and bland – to keep your readers’ eyes from glazing over, try adding in a bit of storytelling to keep your audience interested and engaged.

Ever wanted to interview a leader in your industry? Well, your blog gives you a platform to do just that! Just make sure you do your due diligence and research your subject beforehand. Here’s a tip – try to find other interviews he or she has done so that you don’t end up asking the same questions everyone else has.

Link roundups

Are there great blog posts (besides your own) that you think your readers should know about, or websites they might be interested in? Then provide a list of links to them on your blog. Your audience may even join in on the fun and offer additional links in the comments.

Rants can be a little tricky, but if done in the right spirit, they can spark discussion, and even be fun. Be careful, though – if done wrong, they can damage your reputation or result in a comment flame war.
