Give Yourself a Raise! You Deserve It.
I know small business owners. As a matter of fact, a lot of them, and one thing that’s always true they are always hard working. The demands of starting and running your own business can be overwhelming at times but the owners that survive have learned to deal with the constant demands and pressures that come with owning your own business.
From time to time, I run into a small business owner and we start to talk about marketing and they will say, “I have enough business I don’t want anymore!”
The first few times I heard this I was like “What?” That doesn’t make any sense. I have always been of the school of thought that you should always be growing your business. If you aren’t growing then “Out of Business” is right around the corner.
So what’s behind this? I think I have the answer.
This is what they really hear:
“MORE CUSTOMERS = MORE WORK. Who has to do that work — ME! And I already work hard enough and now you want me to work harder, Fugettaboutit!”
So the equation always equals more work, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Look at it like this instead:
By creating more demand for your product therefore, more inquires and requests, means you can raise your pricing. For instance, if you are a highly skilled cabinet maker and you can double your inbound requests you can then focus your efforts on the clients that will pay a premium for your highly specialized skills.
Bottom line, marketing your business doesn’t have to mean more work for you, it can mean making more money for the work you are already doing! Or it could mean, you work less and enjoy your business more! This is a win, win for you and your business!
