Three Easy Ways to Build Your Email List

Whether you realize it or not, email is still key in the modern marketing world. Take a look around your website for a minute and look at where your email sign up box is currently located. If you don’t have an email signup box that’s a problem, and it’s an even bigger problem if you do have a place to sign up but it’s located somewhere that your site visitors don’t see it. Make it easy for customers to sign up by locating email signup boxes where they’ll see them and put them in multiple places to give them multiple opportunities to sign up. You can even use popups on your website that prompts visitors to sign up right when they land on your page.

Offer a Freebie, Discount, or Other Incentive for Signing Up

Think about it for a moment… Do you have anything that you can give away for free that would get customers in your door (or, more importantly, on your email list)? Discount coupons, exclusive offers, and even free e-books are popular freebie options and most of those cost next to nothing to put together. If you’re a brick and mortar business, you could even get creative and give away an inexpensive promotional item in exchange for signing up for your monthly newsletter.

Ask Existing Customers For Referrals

Do you have customers who think your company is the best at offering what it does? Chances are you have some fans of your business who feel that way, so don’t be afraid to ask those customers to refer their friends and family to you. Again, this is where having a freebie or a discount can come in handy. For example, if you own a restaurant with a loyalty club you could offer existing customers a coupon for money off their next visit for every friend they send your way who also joins the club. Referral traffic with incentives not only helps your grow your customer base, but existing customers win as well when they get discounts.

Once you have your list, what you do with it next is critical to the ongoing success of the customer list you gathered. Regular communication with your customers will remind them of your business and using email makes the sharing of information with them much faster. Newsletters, discount coupons, and just making announcements via email all help keep you at your customer’s front of mind, which also means that they’ll be more likely to visit you first for their needs.
